the beginning
how it all began
Punjab Canteen opened its doors in 2015 on De Liege Street in Montreal and served great Indian homemade food. Niraj Gautam, who was an international student at the time, always visited the place and always thought it reminds him of the taste of home. In 2020, after his graduation, Niraj and sister Diksha along with fellow student and friend Dinesh Sharma decided to buy the Punjab Canteen restaurant. They made some twists to the existing menu, developed new recipes, and renovated the store. In 2021, Eswar Kosuri joined the team, they further developed the concept and went on to open another location on Queen Mary.
The new Punjab Canteen restaurant saw great success from day 1 and each location was serving on average 500 customers per day.
To give back to the community, the management now employs over 50 International students along with local citizens and has embarked on a plan to expand the Punjab Canteen experience and offer franchise opportunities to local entrepreneurs and newcomers looking for a business opportunity all through the franchising model.

You don’t need to go to a high-end Indian restaurant to enjoy the great taste of Indian food, Punjab Canteen offers a wide variety of freshly prepared Indian food served quickly at an affordable price.
